We are looking for an experienced, highly-motivated, forward-thinking Web Designer on a 1 year maternity contract. Reporting to the Development and CRM Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing the overall experience on GapAdventures.com and our related websites. You will champion the user experience, develop a consistent look and feel, re-fresh and re-design areas of the site as required.
Responsibilities:

* To develop and maintain front-end components of the website.
* Design promotional pages, landing pages and overall site layout. Publish, monitor and update site content as required.
* To design and develop GapAdventures.com and related sites functionality, features and design as required by the business.
* To write the necessary code and tests required to implement changes to the websites(s) that meet business needs in a reliable and dependable manner.
* Consult with the business unit, gather requirements from project and team members to develop and evolve the online experience.
* To keep apprised of developments in the online space and make appropriate recommendations for continuous enhancement.
* Help to improve systems, introduce processes and procedure for project development.

Requirements:

* Completion of a post-secondary program in website development with a strong experience in design.
* Accredited course/qualification in relevant computer languages and software applications.
* 2+ yrs in web based languages: PHP, MySQL Javascript, CSS and other programming languages
* 2+ yrs in HTML and PDF authoring tools to design develop and maintain Web pages and sites
* Sound knowledge of Flash and Photoshop/ImageReady an asset
* Experience in variety of specialized software applications to create graphics and convert documents from various word processing, page layout and spreadsheet formats
* Web authoring practices, design, architecture and presentation techniques (2+ years) preferable
* Experience with UI, Ajax preferred.
* Ability to successfully manage several high-priority and time-sensitive projects simultaneously
* Able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical staff at all levels of the company
