Assistant Residential Camping Counsellor
Contract Dates: June 27th – Aug 26th, 2010
Major Responsibilities:
Assistant Counsellors assist Counsellors in providing a safe, fun and educational nature oriented camp experience for an assigned camper group.
Program Planning and Delivery
Assist in planning and delivering all camp program, including special events; campfires; wide games; and mealtime program
Assist in planning and delivery of program for assigned camper group, conforming to program guidelines
Capable of assisting in leadership of all program options offered during residential camp
Assist in managing safety risks at all times
Assist in including campers of all abilities in all program
Camper Care and Supervision
Assist in ensuring campers return home in same (or better) condition in which they were sent to camp
Help to manage risks present during the camp session
Assist in ensuring campers maintain an adequate level of health and hygiene
Assist campers in problem solving dilemmas as they occur, referring the dilemmas to appropriate resource staff as needed
Redirect the behavior of campers as needed in a fair and appropriate way
Provide 24 hour per day positive role modeling and supervision
Maintenance/Administrative Duties
Help campers to keep their area in a clean and orderly manner
Assist campers in carrying out sparkle time duties as assigned
Assist in pre-camp set-up and post-camp clean-up
Complete reports as required (incident, behavioral, etc)
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Required:
Current Standard First Aid & CPR
Pleasure Craft Operators Card
An interest in working with children
16 years of age by commencement of camp program
On site residence is a requirement of this position
Evening and weekend work is a requirement
Hours of work will vary with registered programming program hours are usually 7:30am to 10:00pm
NOTE:
—All programme staff members are required to live on site, so room and partial board are provided.
—All successful candidates are required to submit a Criminal Reference Check and an Intervention Record Check from Alberta Children’s Services.
