Leadership Specialist
Contract Dates: June 27th – Aug 26th, 2010
Position Summary
The Leadership Specialists are responsible for planning and delivering the Leaders-In-Training and Counsellor-In-Training programmes and acting as a resource staff person.
Position Duties
Camper Care and Supervision
Ensure campers return home in the same (or better) condition in which they were sent to camp
Manage all risks present during the camp session
Ensure campers maintain an adequate level of health and hygiene
Assist campers in problem solving dilemmas as they occur, referring the dilemmas to appropriate resource staff as needed
Redirect the behavior of campers as needed in a fair and appropriate way
Provide 24 hour per day positive role modeling
Provide emergency care as required
Distribute medicinal needs of campers while on out trips
Act as a counselor and resource leader for campers as required
Maintenance/ Administrative Duties
Assist in pre-camp set-up and post-camp clean-up
Help campers to keep their area in a clean and orderly manner
Assist campers in carrying out sparkle time duties as assigned
Complete reports as required (incident, behavioral, et cetera)
Complete an end of camp report prior to the last week of camp
Complete performance evaluations for each CIT participant
Plan and deliver the Counsellor-In-Training (CIT) and Leader-In-Training (LIT) programmes, conforming to programme guidelines:
Plan and lead experiential sessions included in the LIT and CIT curriculums (i.e. leadership, camper care, counselling skills, etc) as directed
Assist campers in gaining skills necessary to obtain first aid and PCO certification
Debrief sessions and experiences with LITs and CITs to further learning and reflection
Supervise CITs while they are shadowing staff members
Prepare, lead and debrief a hiking outrip
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
18 years of age by commencement of camp programme
Current Standard First Aid and CPR, and Pleasure Craft Operator Card
Certification and/or experience leading beginner level out trips
High level of programme delivery experience in both outdoor residential and out trip environments
First Aid Instructor certification and canoe instructor certification is an asset
Current National Lifeguard Service and/or boating instructor certification is an asset
NOTE:
—All programme staff members are required to live on site, so room and partial board are provided. Due to the residential nature of the Centre actual hours of work vary, however; programme hours during summer are from 7:45am to 9:00 p.m.
—All successful candidates are required to submit a Criminal Reference Check and an Intervention Record Check from Alberta Children’s Services.
