QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have experience working with and teaching a variety of age groups.
Must have at least one year of camp counseling experience.
Must have the ability to originate, plan, organize, and carry out the waterfront program.
Must be self-motivating and directing.
Must relate well to children, youth and adults.
Must have a lifestyle that is an expression of Christian ethics and principles.
Must have appropriate emotional maturity and stability, and be willing to accept responsibility and work with others in a team situation.
Must be adaptable and flexible as individual situations warrant.
CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
National Lifesaving Society (NLS).
Standard First Aid and Basic Rescuer CPR with AED.
Pleasure Craft Operators Card (test available online).
Waterfront Canoe Instructors Certificate (course may be offered at the camp from time to time).
JOB SUMMARY:
The Lifeguard must coordinate and supervise camp participants in the waterfront activities as well as evening wide game. The Lifeguard will ensure participants comply with water safety regulations and ensure proper maintenance and storage of waterfront equipment.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Program
Implement the waterfront activity schedule which will include instruction in the Swim to Survive Program and instruction in canoeing.
Provide an overview to campers of waterfront rules.
React to any violation of waterfront rules and report repeated infractions to Director.
Supervise all staff and campers participating in waterfront activities.
Monitor the waterfront activity schedule and modify the schedule as required.
Plan, organize and lead camp wide recreation blocks in consultation with program staff, recruiting extra staff to assist when required.
May be required to sleep in a cabin when registration numbers warrant.
Take over the duties and responsibilities of the Health Care Attendant in his/her absence.
B. Christian Community
Welcome campers, parents or guardians, and volunteers.
Attend training sessions.
Act as a goodwill ambassador for Camp Kannawin.
Participate in the daily staff Bible study.
Participate in all on-site camp activities except during scheduled time off.
Work with the team to attain the objectives of a Christian community.
Comply with camp rules.
Ensure that all campers comply with camp rules and the Camp Director is notified of any violation of rules.
Attend daily staff meeting.
C. Other
Participate in the end of season site cleaning.
Assist the Outdoor Educator with the End of Season inventory listing of outdoor education resources.
Participate in the maintenance and cleanliness of common areas.
Complete the self assessment portion of the camp evaluation process.
Assist the Director with other duties that may be assigned.
